Hiking around Muang La

Muang La is an exceptional place to experience the beauty of rural Laos, using the stunning Muang La Lodge or the Nam Kat Yorlapa as a comfortable base. There are a number of gentle walks in the village rice fields, and longer hikes to surrounding hill tribe settlements, that can be matched to individual fitness levels.

One of the longer hikes starts from your lodge after breakfast, and you drive to Pak Khai in a 4x4 vehicle - a pleasant 15 minute journey with magnificent views of the Pak Nam River, rice terraces and many small villages. Upon arrival start walking on small village tracks and across several streams. The hike will be an opportunity to meet local farmers working in rice fields and to learn how they cultivate their land and livestock. Arrive at the village of Ban Phavie in time for lunch, a beautiful Khmu village perched at the top of a hill. Continue hiking to a waterfall where there is the opportunity to relax in the clear water cascades. After some further walking you will be returned to your lodge in Muang La in the early afternoon.
