Rural Naadam Festivals

Celebrated across the country in July, The Naadam Festival is a celebration of the three “manly games” of archery, horse riding and wrestling, which built Chinggis Khans warrior army and the vast empire it conquered.  The festival represents the immense sense of pride that Mongolians have in their heritage, and reflects the day to day skills of Mongolia’s nomadic population. The capital hosts the main event on the 11th and 12th of July at the National Stadium, and at the horse racing field located 40km out of town.  Smaller events take place throughout the countryside at the same time, where you can experience a truly authentic nomadic naadam. At these rural affairs expect to rub shoulders with locals, and wander freely around small makeshift arenas while you watch the proceedings close-up, and perhaps even participate in some of the events.
