Kayak from Nong Khiaw to Luang Prabang

While the drive between Nong Khiaw and Luang Prabang is scenic, the more active may wish to make the journey by kayak. The journey by river will take you through some of the most stunning scenery in Laos and offers a unique insight into the daily lives of the fishermen who depend on the river for their livelihoods. Meet your guide and receive safety instructions at the village of Ban Hatya before paddling downstream on the Nam Ou River. Follow the Nam Ou as it winds between karst limestone mountains covered with lush vegetation until you reach Pha An, where the Nam Ou meets the mighty Mekong. Before taking on the currents at the confluence point of the Nam Ou and Mekong, stop for a picnic lunch on a sandbank surrounded by stunning karst scenery. After a leisurely break, join the Mekong and stop by the sacred Pak Ou Caves crammed with thousands of Buddha images. Continue down the Mekong to the island of Done Khoun, home of the famous Wat Done Khoun temple. The final stretch will take you from Done Khoun Island to the village of Ban Pakxeuang where you will meet with your driver and private vehicle to complete the short transfer to Luang Prabang.
