Hike to Rabse Nunnery

Gyantse's remote location has protected it from the eyes of the Chinese developers, and today it is one of the few towns in the vicinity of Lhasa where an authentic Tibetan feel remains relatively undiluted. The gently sloping countryside surrounding the town is idyllic walking terrain, and this 2-hour hike in the takes you to Rabse Nunnery. Explore the chortens and prayer wheel chapels draped in prayer flags, and take in the superb views of Gyantse's monastery and fort in the distance. For the more adventurous there is the option to extend the walk to the Retok Ganden Retreat, a further 4km uphill trek from Rabse Nunnery.
