When to visit - Laos

You can enjoy a holiday in Laos any time of the year as each season has something different to offer. The best time to visit is between the months of November and April, when rainfall is low and temperatures are cooler. The temperature can drop in the north in December & January, but this period rewards with clear blue skies, pleasant temperatures and low levels of humidity across the country. Please note that March and April is the season of 'slash-and-burn' farming, which may cause smoke and hazy skies at times. May and October sit either side of Laos’s rainy season and are a good time to visit Laos. An increase in rainfall means that the scenery is more green & lush than in the dry season, and tourist numbers are lower than in the peak season. The months leading up to the wet season, from March to May, are some of the hottest times of the year, but if you don’t mind the idea of getting a little wet this is an excellent time to visit. 

The wet season in Laos is by no means the most severe in south East Asia and, depending on where you are in the country; it runs from around June to September time. Although there will certainly be rain, it is often short-lived, particularly in the earlier months (May to July). Road conditions in Laos are always improving and there is no reason why you shouldn’t consider a trip to Laos in these months.
