Support the Tea Plantation Community

The tea regions of Sri Lanka’s Hill Country are extremely beautiful but life can be hard for the people who grow up here. We will take you to visit an inspiring skills development centre which provides skills for young adults aged 18-24 to improve their employment opportunities. There is a centre in Nuwara Eliya and another in Maskeliya, close to Hatton. All the staff at the centres are former students and they will guide you on a tour of the school, providing a background on the history of the tea plantation industry in Sri Lanka and an insight into how the local people live. Enjoy a cup of fresh tea and meet some of the staff and students to learn how the centre makes a difference in the lives of the young people of the area. Your visit helps support the school both financially and practically, by giving the students a rare chance to engage in English conversation.

At the Maskeliya Centre after visiting the school you also have the opportunity to explore the surrounding area by taking a gentle walk around the scenic tea plantation, and even learn how to pick tea leaves yourselves!
