Kalimantan Riverboat Adventure

An adventurous and rewarding way to explore the lying forests and swamps of Kalimantan’s Tanjung Puting National Park is on board a Klotok, a traditional wooden boat adapted for wildlife cruises. The front of the deck acts as a sundeck where you can relax, search for wildlife and watch the emerald panoramas pass you by. At night the crew will transform the deck into a makeshift sleeping area, complete with mattresses, pillows and mosquito nets. The riverboat adventure takes you to three orang-utan feeding stations, and there is the option for some light jungle trekking where you have the opportunity of seeing wild apes roaming in their natural habitat. Other wildlife in the area include clouded leopards, civets, sun bears, mouse deer, barking deer, sambar deer, banteng, two species of crocodiles, snakes, frogs and a huge number of bird species. Comfort levels on the boats are basic, but travelling this way allows you to be immersed in the natural environment all day and night. Most wildlife cruises include two nights on board, but for those concerned about comfort-levels it is possible to combine one night on board a Klotok with a night at Rimba Lodge.
