For those looking for a bit more independence on their tour of Malaysia, then a self-drive journey through the central highlands of the country is sure to be one of the highlights of your trip. Unlike some of its less developed neighbours, Malaysia has high quality roads and good driving laws and practices, and English-speakers are generally not too hard to find. While we don't necessarily recommend a fully self-guided tour across the whole country, a few days driving from Kuala Lumpur to the Cameron Highlands and then on to Penang is a wonderful exerience to include in the middle of your tour.
