The Deccan Odyssey
The Deccan Odyssey was launched in 2004 as a luxury train service to rival the legendary Palace on Wheels, but instead focussing on the rich scenery, historical treasures, and cultural delights of southern and central India. Ripe with romance, adventure and style, each deluxe rail tour with the Deccan Odyssey is a one-in-a-lifetime experience. The train consists of 12 air-conditioned saloons, subdivided into 4 deluxe coupes or 2 suites. In addition to accommodation cars, other saloons hold a lounge, bar, two restaurants, a spa, and a conference and entertainment suite. Each cabin is decked out in a style befitting the golden age of travel, with quality fixtures and fittings, ensuite bathrooms, and wide windows from which to soak in the views. Itineraries start and finish in Mumbai are usually around a week in length, using thoughtfully-curated off-train excursions to cover such varied highlights as Hampi, Hyderabad, Ajanta, Goa, central national parks, or off-the-beaten-track destinations in Maharashtra or Gujarat.
