Self-drive in Japan
The thought of driving your own hired car on a holiday in Asia does not cross many people's minds and whilst a private driver is certainly still the way to go in a lot of countries that we operate in, self-drive is a genuine option in some of the rural parts of Japan and something that we have first-hand experience of doing. Roads in Japan are generally good and driving laws and practices are more akin to what you may be used to in Europe and North America. Plus, they drive on the left-hand side, which is handy if, like us, you are used to driving in the UK!
Whilst the rail network in Japan, and its efficiency, is something to be in awe of, self-driving does allow you access to some much less visited gems, which would otherwise be very difficult to visit.
Embarking on a self-drive tour in Japan is only recommended for confident drivers with open-minds and a sense of adventure and it is important to know what is required of you before you set off and what to expect when you are there. Before you depart for your self-drive holiday in Japan, we will, of course, provide you with lots of useful and important information which will come in handy.
