There can be few better places than Western Province to immerse yourself in the wildlife of Papua New Guinea. If you are staying at either Bensbach Wildlife Lodge or Lake Murray Lodge you can rest asurred that you will see a vast array of birds, reptiles and mammals.
Bensbach Wildlife Lodge is considered to be one of the premier wildlife locations in the whole of Papua New Guinea. Over 191 different species of birds have been recorded at the lodge and its surrounding grasslands are home to deer, wallabies, snakes and monitor lizards. In the nearby flood plains you will see pelicans, pygmy geese, sea eagles and other birds of prey.
Lake Murray Lodge on the other hand is situated on a lake reputed to be one of the best bird watching areas in the country. In addition to a host of migratory birds, several birds of paradise species, pelicans, hornbills, eagles, parrots and numerous other birds have been sighted here. Lake Murray is also known for its numerous and exotic species of fish which include Black Bass, Barramundi and Saratoga.
