Swim with whale sharks
The Maldives is one of the best places in Asia to have an ethical encounter with whale sharks. Many resorts will run boat trips out to snorkel or dive with these majestic creatures.
The South Ari Atoll is the best area to see them in their natural habitat. The whale sharks are present throughout the year, but the best times are December to April, when the waters are at their clearest, or during the wetter summer months when the numbers of whale sharks increase.
