December – April: The driest months in the Maldives are between December and April. At this time of year, temperatures will stay at a toasty 30-32°C level, and the days will be long and dry with many hours of bright sunshine with which to enjoy the stunning natural beauty of the region. These are the most popular months to visit the Maldives, so prices will be higher at this time and resorts will be fuller. At this time of year there is less wind as well, so the seas are at their calmest and clearest, giving perfect conditions for diving and snorkelling. If you are keen to swim with manta rays then the best time to do this on the western side of the atolls is November to April.
May – November: The ‘rainy season’ runs from May to November. This brings higher chances of rain and stronger winds throughout the archipelago. However, the wet season is not nearly so pronounced as in other parts of Asia, and there are still long stretches of uninterrupted sunny days during this time. Temperatures stay close to 30°C throughout the year. Prices are lower during this period, so you have better chances of securing a great deal when travelling during the ‘off season’. The Maldives is a true year-round destination, so there is no bad time to visit! Stay on the eastern side of the atolls from May to October if you would like the chance to swim with the manta rays.
