The Birds & Wildlife of Sri Lanka (17 days)
Sri Lanka is a paradise for wildlife fanatics and bird-watchers alike and this 17 day itinerary takes you to the island’s best national parks where you can see a huge variety of different birds and wildlife. You’ll spend time in the two largest parks, Wilpattu and Yala, famous not just for their Leopards and elephants, but also for abundant reptile and birdlife. Trek through the Horton Plains National Park, surrounded by the tea plantations of the hill country and home to rare and endemic highland birds and then spend time exploring the less visited Gal Oya National Park, where you can take a boat safari to see wildlife on the Senanayake Samudra Reservoir. Also included is a safari in Bundala National Park and two nights staying in the Sinharaja Rainforest, perhaps the best of all bird-watching destinations in Sri Lanka. Finish the trip on a south coast beach resort in Mirissa with a private whale and dolphin watching tour. The suggested accommodation in this itinerary is of a good superior level throughout with two splendid tented camps in Wilpattu and Yala. Most of the accommodation is set in some lovely countryside where you can see plenty of interesting bird and animal life without having to leave the grounds.
