South Borneo Explorer (16 days)
This tour focuses on the Malaysian State of Sarawak to discover the National Parks, varied wildlife and rich cultural heritage found in this fascinating corner of Borneo. Using the appealing city of Kuching as a base the tour starts with a walking tour of the coastal Bako National Park, a visit to the orang-utan rehabilitation centre at Semonggoh and a kayaking excursion in the highlands. Continue to Sarawak’s largest National Park, Gunung Mulu, and explore its varied topography of low-lying rainforest, limestone peaks and extensive cave network. You will then take a short flight to nearby Miri, and a day trip to Niah National Park - famous for its Palaeolithic & Neolithic burial sites and prehistoric cave paintings that were first discovered in the 1950s. Travel overland from Miri and cross the border into Brunei’s capital Bandar Seri Begawan, and travel by boat to the pristine rainforests of the Ulu Temburong National Park. Spend three days exploring the forests in search of wildlife, and brave the Belalong canopy walkway with its 43m viewing platform. The tour finishes with a relaxing three-night stay at the Gayana Marine Resort on Gaya Island, an ideal base from which to explore Borneo’s equally fascinating marine environment.
