Muscat

Muscat is an alluring and atmospheric city, situated on the Gulf of Oman, with a trading heritage which goes back centuries. Its position in between Europe and Asia makes it a convenient stopover destination, with range of excellent upmarket hotels and plenty to see and do locally. The centre of Muscat is a mix of bustling souks and heritage buildings, all of which are found spotlessly clean. Building regulations are tightly controlled: there are no high rises, and very little glass-and-steel, so the result is a city which feels refreshingly traditional air in comparison to its' 'blingier' neighbours. There are some great beaches in the Muscat area and there are plenty of day trips on offer: head into the desert, up to the mountains or out to sea on a sailing or diving cruise.
