It is a serious rival to the Goroka Show and draws many tourists to the region each August when tribes from all over the Western Highlands Province of Papua New Guinea, and other neighbouring provinces from the Highlands region, gather in Hagen to put on exciting cultural performances (or sing-sings) involving traditional dances, singing and rituals. There will be some excellent photo opportunities so make sure your camera is fully charged and you have some spare batteries. Your guide will explain the order of events and will ensure that you witness the most important 'sing-sings' including those of the famous mudmen. Since then the show has become more of an attraction for local, and international, tourists who come to witness the fabulous sight of thousands of painted warriors dancing, and singing, to the beat of Kundu drums. As well as the traditional performances, there will also be local entertainers, from the modern music scene and a variety of arts and crafts will also be on display. Important notes about the Sepik River Adventure:
* This is a true adventure and will take you to a wonderful, and remote, part of PNG. However conditions are basic and you should therefore travel with a sense of humour and a willingness to adapt to situations that may arise.
* Due to a lack of clean water around the Sepik River, the only solution is to wash in the river itself or with water drawn from the river. However although the river it clean it is contains a high level of silt. As a result it is useful to bring a lot of disposable wipes to clean yourself during the adventure.
* Transport is undertaken in motorised canoes made of traditional wood, equipped with cushions, but the comfort level is modest.
* Your homestay will be very basic. However you will be provided with a mattress to sleep on, clean bedding and a mosquito net.

As you travel along the river you will keep an eye out for the local wildlife which includes the region's main predator - the crocodile. The villages along this part of the Sepik River still practice their ancient traditional customs which include an initiation ceremony, and scarification, of young boys which depicts the crocodile as a symbol of power and strength. You will see the village spirit houses which are beautifully carved and devoted to the crocodile, and you will learn about living alongside these fearsome creatures. A stop for lunch will be made along the way and in the afternoon you will have a further opportunity to witness life in this unique environment. Today's sightseeing will be subject to weather conditions, and the height of the river, and afterwards you will return to your homestay for some time at leisure and then dinner.
