Thar Desert

Between the cities of Jaisalmer and Jodhpur lie a string a small settlements and trading posts, among them Osian, Phalodi, Pokhran, and Dechu. Osian is of particular cultural interest: once a prominent stop on the Silk Route between the 8th and 12th centuries, and home to a complex of beautiful, intricately carved Jain and Brahman temples. Most visitors however visit this isolated part of Rajasthan as a gateway to the Thar Desert. The sweeping sands are home to a number of small and very comfortable camps from where one can enjoy magical overnight camel safaris.
