Central Vietnam is an area of exceptional beauty with endless coastline, dramatic mountains and the exotic scenes of verdant paddy fields dotted with conical hats. This simple yet experiential journey starts in the wonderfully atmospheric coastal town of Hoi An, once a thriving Chinese port that is now under the protection of UNESCO. Your base here will be the charming Anantara Resort set on the edge of the old town, from where you will explore the surrounding countryside on two wheels and learn the art of Vietnamese cuisine at the renowned Madam Vy’s restaurant and cooking school. You will then board the luxurious Vietage train for a relaxing journey south to Qui Nhon to spend six nights on this little-known part of Vietnam’s coastline, staying at the luxurious all-villa Anantara Resort.

Meet & Greet: Upon arrival at Danang Airport you will be met by a guide and transferred to your hotel in Hoi An, a drive of around 45 minutes.

Morning at leisure: This morning you have time at leisure to relax at your hotel, or explore the surrounding area independently.
Half day walking tour of Hoi An: This afternoon you will be taken on a walking tour through the ancient town of Hoi An. The tour will include seeing the former merchants’ houses that are a combination of Vietnamese, Japanese and Chinese styles; the 400 year-old Japanese Covered Bridge constructed in 1593; Sa Huynh Museum located near the Japanese Covered Bridge, which contains exhibitions from the earliest period of Hoi An's history; and the colourful market with its stalls brimming with tropical specialties. The market is a good place to buy silk that can be made into fine garments, all within one day.

Cooking course at the Madame Vy’s Cooking School: Start today's culinary experience with a visit to Hoi An’s colourful market, and experience the amazing sights, sounds and aromas of this busy market. You will have the opportunity to interact with the local sellers and purchase some of the ingredients to be used in the cooking lesson later. Afterwards head for the Vy’s Market Restaurant which is run by Madame Vy, a well-known face in Hoi An. On arrival explore the cooking school’s herb and vegetable garden, before learning about some of Hoi An’s and Vietnam’s well-known dishes. The cooking class includes demonstrations from the school’s chefs, and then a chance for you to cook several dishes in the kitchen which will be enjoyed for lunch.

Cycling trip to Thanh Dong Organic Farm: After breakfast, your guide will meet you at your hotel, and will provide you with bicycles for an interesting visit to a local village. The cycle ride is a gentle 6km, and along the way you will stop at the water coconut forest, rice paddy fields, and a prawn and red snapper farm to learn more about farming activities in Hoi An. Continue cycling along the village lanes to Thanh Dong Organic Farm. At the Organic Farm you will spend some time learning about the farming activities, and how life here has changed for the locals after being introduced to new organic farming methods. Join in with some of the gardening and farming activities for a hands-on experience. Afterwards, enjoy a basket boat ride along the Do River towards the Field Restaurant. Here you can try your hand at a brief cooking lesson before a delicious Vietnamese family style lunch. Return to your hotel in Hoi An in the afternoon and enjoy the rest of the day at leisure.

Private transfer: At the appropriate time today you will be transferred to Danang station in time to board your onward train.
The Vietage luxury train to Qui Nhon: Upon arrival at Danang's railway station board the luxurious Vietage train carriage for the journey south to the emerging beach resort of Qui Nhon (also known as Quy Nhon). The Vietage departs at 09:31, arriving in Qui Nhon at 15:31, with a gourmet lunch served en route. The 318 km journey takes you along Central Vietnam’s dramatic coastline and through rural landscapes of paddy fields dotted with verdant peaks. On board there are six private compartments with two over-sized window seats, providing space for a maximum of 12 guests. The lavishly designed carriage features a well-stocked bar with viewing windows, dining room, bathrooms, and a massage treatment area. Selected wines, beer, soft drinks, tea, and coffee are included on a complimentary basis throughout the journey, with a selection of premium wines and champagnes available from an à la carte menu. Each guest is also entitled to a 30-minute head and shoulder massage.
