Family Adventure in South Korea (14 days)
South Korea is the new kid on the block for family holidays. With the explosion of interest in K-pop and K-drama globally, teenagers are more likely to have posters of the latest K-pop band on their wall than Western pop groups, there’s never been a better time to enjoy a family holiday to South Korea. This 2-week tour is perfect for a family with teenage kids and perfectly combines the best of modern and traditional Korea. While this itinerary has been designed for families with teenagers, we can work on a bespoke itinerary for those with younger children. Please get in touch and we’d be delighted to start piecing together an unforgettable family adventure!

Full day private tour of Seoul: After breakfast, meet your English speaking guide in the hotel lobby to begin exploring South Korea’s capital. The first stop will be the sprawling Gyeongbokkung Palace to view the changing of the guards ceremony. The Palace was built by the Joseon Dynasty in 1394. For centuries, this immense complex was the centre of power, until deposed under the Japanese occupation. You will then have the option of changing into a Hanbok, Korea’s national dress, before heading into the palace. Continue to Tongin Market a traditional market famed for its street food and lunch box system. The system involves purchasing ‘coins’ at a coin store and then using these in exchange for whichever food takes your fancy.
After enjoying a street food lunch, continue with a walk along the Cheonggyecheon stream. Cheonggyecheon is an age old canal in downtown Seoul that was filled with concrete in the 1960's, but reopened in 2005 in its original state. It is now an 11km-long public recreational space, complete with gardens, fountains, and walking trails. Finish with a visit to a coin noraebang (karaoke room) to unwind by belting out your favourite tunes.

Days at leisure in Seoul: You have two full days in the Korean capital, at leisure and unaccompanied. Arming yourselves with cheap T-money transport cards would be a fine idea – with which you can explore the city independently on all modes of public transport. Sites not covered yesterday and worth a look would be the Bukchon Hanok Village, Mt. Namsan and the N Seoul Tower, the National Museum, or the futuristic downtown Gangnam area. If you would like further touring to be built in on this day – particularly to out of town areas such as Panmunjeom and the DMZ, the historical city of Suwon, or the picturesque lake city of Chuncheon – please inform us in advance and we will happily assist.

Afternoon tour of Mangjanggul Cave and walk along the Seopjikoji trail: After checking into your hotel, head out with your private guide for an afternoon tour of Jeju Island. Start with a visit to the Manjanggul Lava Tube, located in Gimnyeong-ri, part of the Geomunoreum Lava Tube system. The lava tube stretches roughly 7,400 meters, with a maximum height of 25 meters and width of 18 meters making it one of the largest lava tubes in the world. Continue on to Seopjikoji at the end of the eastern shore of Jeju Island. "Seopji" is the old name for the area, and "Koji" is Jeju dialect meaning a sudden bump on land. Enjoy a gentle walk to the top of the hill which is wide and flat, to enjoy the panoramic views.
Accommodation: Stay tonight at the Best Western Jeju City (2 Interconnected Standard Rooms)

Explore Udo Island by E-bike: Today you will set out to explore picturesque Udo Island with your private guide. This small island off the coast of Jeju resembles a lying cow so was named Udo Island. Traditions here remain strong, and it remains one of the best places in Jeju to witness the haenyeo, strong-arm women who still use traditional techniques to bring in a daily catch. Getting right into the sea, you may catch a glimpse of the ladies at work - striding out to sea and returning with armfuls of urchins, shellfish, seaweed, and octopus. You have the full day to traverse the bike trails criss-crossing the island to explore at your own pace. On returning to Jeju, make a stop at Ilchulbong, a (thankfully) inactive crater which erupted at sea and is now connected to Jeju’s mainland. From the top of the crater one can enjoy spectacular views of the island. Return to your hotel and have the rest of the day at leisure.

First stop will be the Haedong Yonggung Temple - among the 3 most sacred Buddhist sites in Korea. This complex is dramatically located amongst craggy cliffs looking out to sea. It is a picturesque spot which can be explored on foot for as long as you may wish. Next, hop on the Haeundae beach train for a scenic journey to Haeundae beach. This 4.8 km long ‘beach train’ runs along the track of the formerly abandoned Donghae Nambu Line and lets riders enjoy spectacular coastal views of east Busan. Finish the day with a visit to Haeundae night market to enjoy some street food snacks before returning to your hotel to relax.
