Highlights of The Fergana Valley

The Fergana Valley is the most fertile and populous region of Uzbekistan. There are fewer big-ticket tourist attractions to be found in this part of the country. Instead this is a region for slow travel, as you get further under the skin of the local culture by visiting local craftspeople to learn about the celebrated local industries of silk and ceramics, spending a few hours in a traditional tea house sipping tea and sampling local snacks, exploring local markets, and visiting smaller towns and villages. The Fergana Valley is connected to Tashkent by high-speed train and can be visited as a short one- or two-day side trip from the capital. Those travelling overland to Kyrgyzstan will pass through the Fergana Valley en route and can take the opportunity to explore the region in more depth.
