As the main town of the Musandam peninsula, Khasab is a lively little place reached on a short flight from Muscat or an easy drive from Dubai. Due to its location at the top of the peninsula, it has been heavily influenced over the years by traders from Iran as well as Portuguese settlers and much of the culture and language used here reflects this heady cultural mix. Evidence of this can be found in abundance at Khasab’s Portuguese Fort and the towns ramshackle old souqs. Musandam is known as the ‘Norway’ of Arabia and the coast north of Khasab is a most unusual landscape of fjords (khors) and islands which can be seen from the air on your flight in, but also on a rewarding dhow (traditional boat) excursion. South of Khasab is a spectacular mountain range, offering spectacular views around Jebel Harim and accessible in a 4x4.
