Maison Perumal is a period bungalow which came under the care of the excellent CGH-Earth group, who have transformed it into a distinguished boutique hotel. Located in the Tamil quarter of Pondicherry, this 18th century house reflects both French colonial and south Indian influences. This is particularly evident in the food, which is thoroughly excellent, served at both the cosy bar and the airy courtyard restaurant. The rooms are a delight: spacious, with period furniture keeping the colonial feel intact but still enough 20th century amenities to keep the modern traveller comfortable. A liberal use of stained glass and verdant foliage throughout corridors and communal areas completes a truly atmospheric stay.
