Trekking & Cycling In Taiwan
Taiwan is one of Asia’s best kept secrets and its stunning natural beauty makes it a superb destination for the active traveller and those who love the great outdoors. After extensive research, we have put together some experiences, designed to showcase some of the island's stunning natural beauty and include a number of varied trekking and cycling excursions as you travel from north to south.
Taiwan has a growing reputation as one of the best cycling destinations in Asia and the country is littered with ‘national scenic areas’ and interesting cycle paths, suitable for all levels of cyclist. Particular cycling highlights include a tootle around the scenic north coast in the suburb of Danshui, to the north of Taipei, cycling the perimeter of the mysterious Sun Moon Lake and exploring the green plains, verdant mountains and scenic farmland of the East Rift Valley National Scenic Area between Hualien and Taitung.
Trekking opportunities are no less abundant in Taiwan and to compliment the more established trekking areas around Taroko Gorge National Park and the Alishan Forest, we have included in this itinerary some treks in the less visited Maolin National Scenic Area and in the agricultural region of Cingjing.
With Cathay Pacific now flying in and out Kaoshsiung in the south of the island, it is possible to arrive in Taipei in the north and finish in the south. There really has been no better time to explore the ‘Ilha Formosa’. What are you waiting for? It’s time for Taiwan!
