Morning visit to Chengdu’s Giant Panda Research Centre: It is estimated that there are between just 700 and 1,000 pandas left in the wild. Writings about the panda can be traced back 3,000 years, and they were once believed to have magical powers that could ward off evil spirits. It is extremely difficult to see Pandas in the wild nowadays. The breeding station has been in operation since 1990 and the best time to visit is in the morning around feeding time when they are at their most active. For the rest of the day, the Panda's main activity is sleeping.

Afternoon at leisure: This afternoon, you are free to relax at your hotel, or explore independently. There is more to Chengdu than just pandas. Sample some of the fiery local cuisine, while away the afternoon in one of the city’s many famous teahouses, or marvel at the face-changers at the Sichuan Opera. Day trips to the Great Buddha at Leshan, Mount Emei or Mount Qingcheng can also be arranged from the city.

Road journey from Huanglong to Jiuzhaigou: After your tour of Huanglong National Park, set off by car for your hotel located near Jiuzhaigou Valley, a drive of around 3 hours.

Full day guided tour of Jiuzhaigou National Park: After breakfast, you will enjoy a day's sightseeing in this famous national park. Jiuzhaigou is a wonderfully scenic place to visit with its picturesque lakes, waterfalls, thick forests and surrounding mountains. Visit the Shuzheng and Zezawa Valleys; Pearl Sands and Shuzheng Waterfall; the Tibetan village of Shuzheng, and numerous picturesque lakes including Panda Lake, Long Lake, Rainbow Lake, Tiger Lake and Rhinoceros Lake.

Full day exploring Zhangjiajie National Park: Today, you will get your first taste of the Zhangjiajie National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the first park in China to be officially recognised as a National Forest Park.  Along with several other parks, this area makes up the Wulingyuan Scenic area, and you will have a chance to see several sections of this incredible part of China. Start your day with a ride on the cable car up and down Huangshizhai scenic area, where you can enjoy the view from the largest observation platform in the area. Afterwards set out on a 3 hour hike along the Golden Whip Stream. One of the most picturesque parts of the National Park, the Golden Whip Stream meanders its way through 5.5km of mountains and valleys, surrounded by dense forest and oddly shaped peaks on either side. Care must be taken, especially after rainfall as the paths can get slippery, and watch out for the monkeys along the way!

Full day exploring Zhangjiajie National Park: Today, you will continue your explorations of this massive national park. First you will take an elevator up Yuanjiajia Scenic Area, home to the famous "Avatar Hallelujah Mountain". Then you will be transferred by bus to the Tianzi Mountain Nature Reserve, the highest area in the park, and a favourite spot for photographers hoping to get that shot of the famous 'sea of clouds'. There is a cable car, or it is possible to hike up the mountain, for those who are feeling more adventurous.

Visit Tianmen Mountain: On your final day in the Wulingyuan Scenic Area, you will take a trip to Tianmen Mountain, home to the longest cable car ride in the world. The mountain is easily explored along the cliff-face walkways (including one dramatic section made from glass!), and the height of the mountain means that the views of the surrounding scenery are excellent, particularly on a clear day. Tianmen Mountain is regarded as the soul of Zhangjiajie, and many stories about the mountain have been passed through generations. Viewed as a holy mountain by locals, there is a 500 year old Buddhist Temple nestled in the mountain.

Private transfer: This evening, you will be transferred to Zhangjiajie Airport for your flight to Shanghai.

Visit the Yellow Mountain: If you have ever seen a traditional Chinese painting of mountain scenery, you have probably been looking at Huangshan. The Yellow Mountain is known as being the 'most beautiful mountain in China', and today you will leave your village hotel, and ascend Huangshan by cable car, taking in the breath-taking scenery along the way. After checking into your hotel on arrival at the summit you will have time to explore the wondrous Yellow Mountain. There are the options of easy walks or more challenging routes. Visit Brush Pen Peak, Lion Peak and the West Sea Grand Canyon. If the weather is fine you may be lucky enough to witness the spectacular sunset from the Cloud Dispelling Pavilion.

Sunrise from Yellow Mountain: Arise early this morning, for the chance to see the magical sunrise emerge through the surrounding misty peaks from the viewing platform located a few minutes from the Beihai Hotel.

Transfer to railway station: Later this morning, descend the mountain by cable car, and transfer to the railway station.

High-speed train: Board the high-speed G7308 train from Huangshan North to Shanghai. The train departs at 13.48 and arrives at 15.46.

Private transfer: On arrival at Shanghai's railway station, you will be met and transferred to your hotel to check in.

Day at leisure: You have some time to explore the vibrant city of Shanghai independently before your departure flight this evening. Wander around the Old French Concession, take an evening boat trip along the Huangpu River, people-watch in one of Shanghai’s pretty parks, or take a trip out to one of the nearby ancient water towns to get a glimpse of China’s past.

Private transfer: This evening, you will be transferred to Shanghai Pudong Airport for your departure flight. A late check-out from your hotel can be arranged, subject to availability and additional cost.
