An ideal tour for those who want to come face to face with the stunning natural beauty of Peninsular Malaysia. After starting in the energetic capital, Kuala Lumpur, this 2 week journey will take you up to the lively cultural melting pot of Penang. From here, head across the spine of the country to the Belum Temengor Forest Reserve, where you will spend 3 nights in an isolated eco-resort exploring the rainforest. From Belum head down to the north east corner of the Peninsula, stopping overnight at the culturally rich city of Kota Bharu, before ending your trip on the beach. The tour ends with time to relax on the beautiful Perhentian Islands, where you can undertake any number of jungle walks, snorkelling trips or simply bask in the sunshine on some of Malaysia’s most stunning beaches.

Flight: MH1 London Heathrow - Kuala Lumpur 21.35 - 17.10 (overnight)
Meet & greet: Upon arrival at Kuala Lumpur International Airport you will be welcomed to Malaysia by your private English speaking guide, and then transferred to your hotel. Once checked-in the remainder of the day is at leisure.

Morning orientation tour of Kuala Lumpur: This morning you will be taken for an orientation tour of the city covering the major historical landmarks - King`s Palace, National Monument, National Mosque and Merdeka (Independence) Square. Much of the history of the city is depicted here as well as the tradition and cultural heritage of the major communities. Included in this tour is an opportunity to enjoy the panoramic view of the city from the observation deck of the KL Tower.
Afternoon at leisure: This afternoon you have some time free to explore the Malaysian capital independently. KL is a large city, but easy to navigate. The public transport system is extensive and easy-to-use, and English-speakers are always at hand. As with any large, modern capital city there is a wealth of activities, excursions, shopping opportunities, and dining options at hand. Your hotel and guide will be able to suggest a number of good ideas.

Airport transfer: Early this morning, you will be transferred the airport in time to catch your flight up to Penang.

Airport transfer: Upon arrival you will be met by your local driver-guide and taken to your downtown hotel for a two night stay.
Round-island tour of Penang: After checking in, you will set off from your hotel and be taken on a drive around the island to see the beauty of Penang and her unique attractions. The tour takes you through idyllic fishing villages, picturesque kampongs, fruits and spice orchards. There will also be a visit to the batik factory outlet and the historical Snake Temple before returning to your hotel.

Day at leisure in Penang: Today you have a full day at leisure to explore Malaysia's second largest city. Penang has a unique character, quite apart from the rest of Malaysia. As a former trading port it has a diverse population and rich history, all of which is reflected in the colonial architecture of buzzing Georgetown. Georgetown is now most well-known as one of the world's great foodie destinations, and it is highly worth embarking on a food trail of the city - we can help recommend some of our favourite dishes! For those who prefer a more relaxing day, the beaches of Batu Ferringhi are a short taxi ride away, while sedate activities such as spa treatments or cooking classes can be arranged through your hotel.

Journey from Penang to Belum: After an early breakfast, you will met at the hotel and embark on the drive into the central state of Perak. A drive of around 3 hours' will have you arriving at the Pulau Banding island jetty, from where you will catch a shared boat service through the lake to the Belum Eco Resort. This island-based resort is totally isolated, and can only be reached via a 40-minute boat ride from the jetty.
Afternoon activities: After arriving and checking in, you will be treated to a home-cooked lunch, before embarking on a short tour around the island. This will be followed by a tea break and then time to pursue activities of your choosing at the resort - fishing, kayaking, sailing, swimming are all good options. Dinner will be served around 8.00pm, after which you will be shown a short documentary about the reserve.

Full day exploring the rainforest reserve: After breakfast you will set out to explore the rainforest reserve in the company of your own private guide. In the morning you make a short trek to a set of waterfalls, followed by a visit to an indigenous Orang Asli village. You will also trek to hopefully spot some of Belum's famous Rafflesia flowers, before returning to the Eco Resort for lunch. The afternoon is then at leisure to enjoy the facilities of the resort, or relax in your chalet.

Second full day exploring Belum: After breakfast you will take a boat out to the further edges of the lake, where you will visit the Temengor hydro-electric dam, which was completed in 1972 and was responsible for flooding the Belum Temengor area, thus in the process creating the lake-based rainforest reserve. You will then proceed to visit a natural salt lick used by local elephants, an area of dinosaur-age white rock outcrops, and explore the Tilapia aquaculture farms on the doorstep of Belum Eco Resort. After the tour you will once again return to the Eco Resort for lunch followed by an afternoon at leisure.

Road journey from Belum to Kota Bharu: After breakfast you will have a morning at leisure, before taking the shared transfer back down Pulau Banding. You will be met at the jetty and then driven down to the East Coast city of Kota Bharu - a journey of around 3 hours. Proceed straight to your hotel to check in.
Guided tour of Kota Bharu: After checking in you will then be taken on a guided tour to the famous market in Kota Bharu. Continue on to Cok Aminah Songket weaving workshop where you will witness the delicate process involved in weaving the beautiful songket (a type of fabric intricately patterned with gold or silver threads). You will also stop at Ismail Bin Jusoh to see how the mystical ‘Way' or giant kites are made. Finish the tour with a drive south along the coastal road where you will pass laid back Kampongs (villages) and long stretches of beach. Return to your hotel in the late afternoon.

Journey from Kota Bharu to Perhentian Islands: After breakfast you will be transferred to Kuala Besut jetty, a journey of approximately 1 hour by car. From there you will be taken by speedboat on the 45 minute journey over to Perhentian Besar. On arrival you will check straight into your island hotel, spending the remainder of the day at leisure.

Journey from the Perhentian Islands to Kota Bharu: Return by speedboat and road to Kota Bharu, where you will catch a short domestic flight to Kuala Lumpur, connecting in turn with your Malaysian Airlines flight to London Heathrow.
