Highlights of Tashkent Region

Tashkent is the capital city and the entry and exit point for the majority of travellers visiting Uzbekistan. Although it doesn’t have a reputation for being the most attractive city, there is plenty of interest in the capital to fill a couple of days at the start and end of your tour. The mixture of stark Soviet architecture and traditional Uzbek culture makes for a truly fascinating example of Central Asia’s blend of history and more modern influences, and here you will also find some of the best restaurants and shopping in the country. The surrounding region also offers opportunities for side trips into the countryside, such as to the Ugam-Chatkal National Park or the Chimgan Mountains, for some hiking and a refreshing break from the city air.

Khast Imam Mosque, Tashkent
Tashkent is a surprising city. Wide tree-lined boulevards sit side by side with imposing Soviet-era architecture. The city’s charms may not be immediately obvious, but spend a bit of time here and there are treasures to be discovered.
