Himalayan Teahouses

All of the established trekking routes in Nepal are lined with “Bhatti”, or Teahouses which are set up by local people to offer rooms and meals to those passing by. Standards vary between villages but a typical Teahouse is a mix between a basic guesthouse and a homestay, with a restaurant area where you can meet other trekkers around a central stove. The rooms are basic with twin beds that come with a mattress, pillow and sheets on which you can place a sleeping bag (provided by your guide). It is recommended to bring your own pillow cases as those provided may not have been washed thoroughly. The walls tend to be paper thin, so earplugs are handy for light sleepers. Most rooms have access to a shared bathroom with showers that are heated by solar power, but some have en suite facilities. Your guide will do his/her best to secure a private room for you, but at busy times this will not always be possible.
