Kalimpong is another scenic Himalayan hill station, situated roughly two hours east of Darjeeling. It was once the starting point for the migration and trade routes across to Tibet, and to this day retains a distinct Buddhist air with its Tibetan heritage adding to a sizable Nepali population. British influence is found in numerous tea plantations, pleasant gardens, and colonial architecture, while many former expats have a connection with the renowned Dr Graham's Homes School which occupies some 400 acres on the southern edge of town.
