Satpura National Park
The Satpura National Park takes its name from the Satpura hills that range across central India. It covers 524 sq km of protected forests and is surrounded by the Pachmarhi Biosphere Reserve, together spreading over an area of some 4926 sq km. While the terrain is largely hilly, the action of the local streams over many millennia has resulted in deep and narrow gorges and ravine. The Tawa reservoir and the many streams that feed into it - such as the Denwa and the Sonbhadra - ensure that a good part of the park is well-watered. Considered as one of India’s best kept secrets this national park is a welcome change to the regular wildlife circuit in India. What makes Satpura truly unique, is the variety of options it offers guests to experience the flora and fauna in this magnificent forest. It is the only park in central India which allows people to explore Tiger country on foot. Further, the forest department along with lodge owners is working towards offering non-motorized ways of discovering the tiger reserve. In addition to walking, guests can also opt for jeep, canoeing, elephant and motorboat safaris.
