Orchha

Orchha is a town frozen in time and is one of the contenders for most picturesque towns in India. Founded by Raja Rudra Pratap in the 16th century, who is said to have chosen this stretch of land along the Betwa River as an ideal site for his capital. He and his succeeding rulers oversaw a golden age for Orchha when many beautiful palaces and temples were constructed during the 16th and 17th century. Today, remains of the fort and palaces speak eloquently of Orchha’s time of glory and are incredibly photogenic.
