Highlights of Andaman Islands

The Andaman Islands are of the world’s true ‘bucket list’ destinations. Located way out in the Bay of Bengal, the string of islands is in fact much closer to Myanmar and South-East Asia than they are to the Subcontinent. They are famously hard to get to – for many years the only way was a boat journey of several days from the mainland! – but since the construction of an airport in Port Blair there are now daily flights from Kolkata, Chennai, and Mumbai. All travellers will require a night in the busy provincial capital before moving on by speedboat or ferry to the island destinations of Havelock and beyond. Getting to one of these isolated beach resorts will take a couple of days all in, but once arrived one finds true paradise.
