The small town of Haa can be found in a valley of the same name a few hours drive southwest of Paro, and reached by crossing the Cheli La Pass which sits at 3810m. From the top of the pass there are great views of Paro on one side and the Haa Valley on the other. On a good day you can also see Mount Jomolhari. As you descend from the pass, on a windy hillside road, the Haa Valley opens up before you and the small town of Haa can be seen hugging the Haa Chhu River. Much of the valley has been given over to the Indian Army, who have a training base here, and even the dzong is now in military hands. Nevertheless Haa is a picturesque place to visit with its traditional shops and a couple of interesting temples such as Lhakhang Karpo.
