The Jirisan National Park covers a vast area, inclusive of numerous famous temples as well as an array of breathtaking valleys and peaks. With little in the way of accommodation, most tourists will be passing by to or from larger southern cities; a shame, as the area has a definite feel of the ‘real Korea’ and we highly recommend pausing to take a little more time while passing through. If you do choose to stay in the area we encourage taking part in an overnight temple stay at Hwaeomsa, a serene temple complex found amidst beautiful natural surroundings. Jirisan Mountain itself is said to be one of the three holiest in Korea, on a par with Seoraksan (in the east) and Hallasan (on Jeju island).
