Health Requirements For Vietnam

Back to all travel tips

There are no compulsory vaccinations needed for entry into Vietnam unless you are arriving from an area in the Yellow Fever zone (currently only South American & African countries) in which case you will be required to show that you have been inoculated against the disease.

However it is essential that you are up to date with vaccinations for at least the following: Typhoid, Tetanus, Polio and Hepatitis. Please also note that malaria is prevalent in some areas of Vietnam and it is therefore possible that you will need the appropriate medicine. For competitively priced Malarone visit travelpharm.com which is an online pharmacy offering online consultations. If you are spending a long time in remote parts of the country a Rabies vaccination may also be recommended.

However as we are not trained to give specific health advice we strongly recommend that you visit your doctor or a travel clinic for appropriate advice well in advance of your travel date. Bear in mind that some immunisations need to be given a couple of months prior to departure so we would suggest that you seek advice at least 2 months before you travel.

For further information MASTA operate travel clinics across the UK and provide a free travel health brief on their website masta-travel-health.com. Alternatively look at the NHS Fit for Travel website fitfortravel.nhs.uk or get in touch with The Hospital for Tropical Diseases via their website www.thehtd.org - they provide useful information on the vaccinations and malaria prophylactics that may be needed for travel in Vietnam.
