Mae Hong Son

Mae Hong Son sits in the northwest corner of the country some 580 miles from Bangkok. This pleasant town is deep in hill tribe country and there are Karen, Shan, Lisu, Lahu and Musoe villages all within easy reach of the town itself. As well as these hill tribes, visitors also tend to come here to see the long necked Padaung who live in villages a short distance from Mae Hong Son. The region is sheltered by several high mountains and enjoys a cool climate almost all year round. It can get very cool in the evenings so trekkers who will be overnighting in hill tribe villages should take warm clothing.
