Koh Jum is a charming ‘pocket of resistance’ against the commercialisation that has taken place on many of Thailand’s other islands. With its traditional way of life, rustic feel and some wonderful beaches, Koh Jum (or Jam) is drawing visitors in search of a quieter side to island life who come to relax or potter around its three villages.
Despite being so close to Krabi Airport – the transfer takes just 40 minutes by road and another 20 minutes by boat - little development has taken place on the island and electricity was only introduced here a few years ago. A long stretch of coastline on the western side of the island is home to an eclectic collection of bungalow style resorts, most of which cater for back-packers. However there are also a couple of upmarket resorts which offer top notch bungalows in otherwise simple, but comfortable, surroundings and our favourite of these is the Koh Jum Beach Villas.
