Matsu Islands

The Matsu islands are a former military outpost with many former military fortifications and tunnels dotting the islands, many of which have been opened to the public. Between May and September algae grows in the water around the Matsu archipelago which emit a glittering blue glow if disturbed. Travellers visiting the Matsu islands during this time will be able to view this natural phenomenon known locally as the ‘Blue Tears.’
