Ludao Island (Green Island)
Ludao, also called Green Island, is truly one of Taiwan’s hidden gems. The coral reefs which skirt its shoreline offer some of Taiwan’s finest diving and snorkelling. Not only is Ludao blessed with abundant tropical fish, it also boasts a rare sea water hot spring. Ludao was once used as a former penal colony for political prisoners during Taiwan’s martial law period, 1949 – 1987. The main prison, known as Green Island Lodge, has been converted into a small museum.
