Once the seat of the Hunza royal family, Karimabad enjoys an imposing location above the Hunza River. Today it’s a small, mountain town with a selection of comfortable hotels and restaurants. The town is home to the centuries-old Baltit and Altit forts, both beautifully restored and perched dramatically on rocky outcrops. There are a number of sites within easy access of Karimabad including: Attabad Lake, formed after a dramatic landslide in 2010, and the Eagle’s Nest viewpoint offering fabulous views of the Hunza Valley. Further afield day trips can be made to sites such as the stunning Hopar Valley and glacier.
