Eagle Valley
Eagle Valley is a beautiful river canyon flanked by sheer rock walls with a height of 200m on both sides, blocking any sunlight from the valley below. At the entrance to the canyon there is an interesting natural history museum with a fascinating collection of stuffed animals from the area including argali (wild sheep), ibex (wild goat), snow leopard, wild camel, wild ass, black and white tailed gazelle as well as dinosaur bones and eggs.
From the museum there is an enjoyable stroll following a small river running along the canyon floor for a mile until it freezes into a thick corridor of ice stretching into the distance. This is one of 68 glaciers in Mongolia, and the canyon has been protected since 1965 because of its unique ecosystem.
The canyon is rich in wildlife, and it is common to see ibex, argali and several species of birds of prey high above.
