Matsuyama
Capital of Shikoku, Matsuyama is an attractive city on the northwest coast of Shikoku with good ferry links across the Inland Sea to the city of Hiroshima on Japan’s main island Honshu. Most visitors come to see Matsuyama’s castle, considered one of Japan’s finest from the feudal era, dramatically perched on a hill rising from the heart of the city. The city also boasts Japan’s oldest hot springs at Dogo Onsen, a great place to plunge into the Japanese culture at the four storey public baths which offer a number of ways to soak. Matsuyama also claims to be the capital of haiku, a form of Japanese poetry.
