Located on the cost in the northern part of the Kyoto Prefecture, just 30 minutes drive from Amanohashidate, Ine is a traditional fishing village and one of the most beautiful in all of Japan. Ine is famous for its ‘funaya’, which are boat houses which lean over the waterfront with a covered dock for boats below the higher floor rooms. A few of these funaya are now lodges which accept guests. The village itself is easily navigated on foot or using the bicycles which are free to hire from the tourist information centre. Visitors should also make sure they leave time to take a boat trip out on the water on one of the villages water taxis, where you will not only be able to see the pretty funaya around the bay, but also you may see Japanese black kites hunting in the skies above.
