Bunaken National Marine Park
Formally established in 1991, the Bunaken is one of Indonesia’s first National Marine Park covering a total surface area of 89,065 hectares of sparkling clear, warm tropical water. There are five picture postcard islands within the park’s boundaries, namely Bunaken, Manado Tua, Mantehage, Nain and Siladen.
Expect calm, protected water with up to 40m visibility, and temperatures averaging 28c. The park protects a huge level of biodiversity, fuelled by rich oceanic currents, which includes 70 types of soft and hard corals. Snorkelers and divers can also expect to spot several species of butterfly fish, groupers, damsels, wrasses, parrot fish and gobies.
