Zhaoxing - Guizhou Province
Zhaoxing is a traditional Dong Minority Village, located in Guizhou province. Long having been left to its own devices, the construction of a high-speed rail line through the province has now brought Zhaoxing into the modern world and it has become a recent target for tourism and development. For now though, Zhaoxing remains a fascinating window into the lives of the minority people of China's southwest region. The largest Dong community in China, Zhaoxing is home to over 800 households, and is famous for its impressive collection of Drum Towers, each symbolizing a different family clan.
Nearby is the village of Tang'an, referred to as a 'living museum', as the culture and the architecture of the Dong community has been preserved in this settlement with a history of more than 700 years.
