Chaozhou - Guangdong Province
Chaozhou, in southern China's prosperous Guangdong Province, was once a centre of trade and culture to rival Guangzhou. While its importance may have dwindled in years since, Chaozhou remains a vibrant city with a great deal of historical and cultural interest. Remnants of the original Ming City Walls can still be seen, holding in Chaozhou's fascinating old quarter, complete with crumbling Ming & Qing Dynasty architecture. Chaozhou cuisine is famous across China, celebrated for its light taste and fragrant flavours. As in many places along Eastern China, tea plays an important role in Chaozhou's culture and history. Take the opportunity to stop in at any of the city's traditional teahouses and sample some of Chaozhou's distinctive Gongfu tea.
