Trashigang
Once an important centre of trade with Tibet & Assam, Tashigang is situated in the heart of East Bhutan. It is one of the largest towns in the region and the second largest district in Bhutan. Trashigang is notable for the imposing Dzong, built in 1667, that holds sway over the region and for an ancient lhakhang (or temple) which is famous for its rock garden and contains a sacred footprint said to be that of Guru Rimpoche. The region around Trashigang is well suited to growing rice and lavender.
