Wild Burma
Following the broadcast of the BBC Wildlife documentary Wild Burma we have put together a specialist adventure tour taking in the very best wildlife opportunities currently available in Myanmar.
Unfortunately, nearly all of the areas of Myanmar featured in the recent documentary (broadly Kayin, Kachin and Rakhine states for episodes 1, 2, and 3 respectively) are currently off-limits for foreign tourists. This includes the regions where you would be most likely to encounter the headline attractions of tigers, leopards, and bears. That said, there is still ample adventure to be had in this vastly undiscovered country. With most tourists still heading to only the most popular destinations of Yangon, Mandalay, Bagan, and Inle Lake much of the country remains largely unseen.
Our new tour 'Wild Burma' includes numerous bird watching excursions throughout, a day learning to be a mahout at an elephant conservation project, a chartered boat trip to witness the extraordinary co-operative fishing technique shared between villagers and river dolphins, and a trek through the mountainous Chin state to Nat Ma Taung - the highest mountain in Western Burma. This latter trip will also provide unrivalled bird, animal, and plant-spotting as well as visits to local villages to encounter the unique cultures of the Chin tribes and their tattooed ladies.
All of these regions are currently accessible, but very rarely-visited. Part of the attraction of the tour will be getting well off the beaten track, as well as having the chance to be among the first to witness Myanmar’s enormous potential as a destination for wildlife tourism.
