Temple Safari In Cambodia

25/07/2013Cambodia News

News of a lost ancient city being found in Cambodia was reported around the world last month. Mahendraparvata, located in the Phnom Kulen national park in Siem Reap province, was revealed to archaeologists using sophisticated laser-imaging technology. The city is located just 15 miles north of the Angkor temple complex, and the two are thought to have been linked, forming part of an extensive ancient civilization. The city and its ruins are buried under dense undergrowth, and may takes decades to reveal, if ever.

Although it is currently impossible to visit the exact location of Mahendraparvata, Bamboo Travel still offer a variety of excursions to temples and ancient sites throughout Cambodia. All our travel to the region is bespoke, so should you wish to visit some more remote temples such as Koh Ker or Banteay Chhmar these can be arranged.

For particularly intrepid travellers, we even offer a unique ‘Temple Safari’ experience, in which you can stay overnight within the complex of a deserted temple. Accommodation is in luxurious tents (standing room throughout!) available in 3* or 4* standard, with fully-functional bathrooms and fine dining under the stars. Experiences range from 2-days/1-night exploring various locations (including to the auspicious Phnom Kulen plateau, mentioned above), up to a 5-day/4-night safari driving and trekking across parts of Cambodia totally inaccessible to other tourists. The safaris can be as adventurous or extended as you wish, and we strongly encourage you to contact one of our experts to discuss ideas.
