The Muang La Loop
Deep in the Northern Laos countryside is not the place one would expect to find a delightful boutique lodge serving the finest French/Laotian fusion cuisine. The Muang La Lodge, however, offers all the charms of a French chateau, whilst sitting in perfect harmony with its surroundings on the banks of a swirling stream and on the edge of the tiny minority village of Tai Lu.
A 2 night stay at the Muang La resort marks just one of the highlights of travel in the little-visited regions of Northern Laos. Begin your journey in ancient Luang Prabang, before embarking on a breath-taking drive through the hills, forests, and villages and onwards towards Oudomxay where you will find the resort. Once arrived spend your days exploring the countryside and local villages, and your evenings indulging in the restaurant, hot tub, or spa.
Head back downstream in your private long tail boat to Nong Khiaw. Slow travel down the Mekong is as enchanting an experience imaginable; karst limestone cliffs tower either side of the river, and frequent stops can be made to visit rural areas totally inaccessible to other travellers. After a night in Nong Khiaw in a comfortable riverside lodge, get back on the boat for a second day’s spectacular river journey to Pak Beng. Finally, head back to Luang Prabang to round off an extraordinary adventure into the wilds of Northern Laos.
We include trips out to Muang La Resort on several of our tours. If this trip sounds like something that would entice you, get in touch in today and we can suggest this and a number of other unforgettable experiences for your holiday to the Far East.
